Safer Internet Day 2012

Safer Internet Day 2012 was celebrated on Tuesday 7th February. This International annual event, which is organised by European Internet Safety Network (INSAFE) and is co-funded by the European Commissions Safer Internet Programme, takes place every February to promote safe and responsible use of the internet and mobile phone technologies, especially amongst children and young people.

Just like with past years, the safer internet day celebrations included local, national and international events organised by a broad variety of organisations ranging from schools and youth clubs to industry, civil society and local and national government agencies.

SID was first celebrated in 2004, participation in this event has been steadily growing, with an increase in general awareness, stronger involvement of relevant stakeholders in the field of internet safety and a high level of media interest. It is expected that Safer Internet Day 2012 will be celebrated in over 70 countries worldwide.
