Safer Internet Day 2010 (News Item)

Safer Internet Day 2010 will be celebrated on Tuesday 9th February. This International annual event, which is organised by European Internet Safety Network (INSAFE) and is co-funded by the European Commissions Safer Internet Programme, takes place every February to promote safe and responsible use of the internet and mobile phone technologies, especially amongst children and young people. The topic for 2010 is "Think B4 U post!".

Just like with past years, the safer internet day celebrations will include local, national and international events organised by a broad variety of organisations ranging from schools and youth clubs to industry, civil society and local and national government agencies.

SID was first celebrated in 2004, participation in this event has been steadily growing, with an increase in general awareness, stronger involvement of relevant stakeholders in the field of internet safety and a high level of media interest. It is expected that Safer Internet Day 2010 will be celebrated by 60 countries across the globe.

What will happen on Safer Internet Day 2010?

The Office for Internet Safety has produced an information leaflet on Internet safety, a Internet Safety bookmark as well as an awareness poster highlighting the topic of this year "Think B4 U Post". These will be distributed to each Library Authority and will be available in public libraries on Safer Internet Day.
